Situation
- While monitoring the systems of a Managed Services client, we noticed that something was not right and that the company was possibly the target of a ransomware attack.
- Although the client did not, at the time, have our Managed Security services, our managed services team took action.
Solution:
- We immediately isolated their Exchange servers and started a security audit that confirmed that an attack was indeed taking place. This action prevented the attack from going any further.
- During the security audit we also discovered another attack that was brewing, from a different group of hackers.
- Although the client lost access to their emails for a week while the virus was removed, the result could have been much worse if the attack had not been detected when it was.
- The client now has our managed security solutions on all endpoints and servers so any future attack can be auto detectedand removed immediately.
